Illinois Symphony Orchestra selects Taichi Fukumura as next music director - The Pantagraph

BLOOMINGTON — After a two-year search process, Taichi Fukumura has been selected to lead Illinois Symphony Orchestra as its next musical director.

Fukumura, a Japanese-American who grew up in Boston, will make a return to Illinois to continue his musical journey in the Prairie State as a symphonic orchestra’s director. He began playing violin at age 3, completed a bachelor’s degree in violin performance at Boston University and earned both his master’s in music and doctorate in musical arts at Northwestern University in Evanston.
