New Season, New Era for your Illinois Symphony Orchestra

The Illinois Symphony Orchestra “took the audience on an emotional and sonic roller coaster” in its thundering rendition of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 that closed the Orchestra’s “Festive Fanfare” opening concert.

How right he is. Our new Music Director Taichi Fukumura has re-invigorated the ISO with his boundless energy and musical leadership. And ten new members have joined the ISO following highly competitive national auditions contributing their artistry to the orchestra.

To celebrate this exciting time, we share the news that a generous donor has challenged us to raise an additional $100,000 by December 31, 2024. The donor will match both increased support from current donors and gifts from new donors on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $100,000. Featured violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason not only dazzled the audience with his performance of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Violin Concerto, but spent the week before working with students from the Illinois Youth Symphony Orchestras and music students at Illinois State University and the University of Illinois-Springfield.
